The team attended the 2003 competition eager to compete they returned eager to produce a car for the 2004 competition. The 2004 FSAE-A competition saw the first time QUT Motorsport competed. Featuring a Yamaha R6, chromoly steel tube space frame, and 13″ Goodyear tyres, the team had high hopes for the competitiveness of their design, and it showed, with a respectable midfield finish of 17th overall.
Unfortunately, due to snapping a stub axle, QMX-I was not able to compete in the skid pad event. However, with some quick fixing, the car was able to make it out for the rest of the events finishing off comfortably within the mid-feild a massive effort for a first-time entrance. Using this experience the team now looks forward to their refine the new design of QMX-II.
Fun Fact: QMX-I’s chassis can now be found apart from an alumni’s garden being used as a garden bed!
